Cascade Regional Blood Services relies on voluntary donations to ensure a safe and adequate blood supply. Our business is entirely dependent on you, and the security of your information is our top priority. We are committed to ensuring your donor information is safely and privately handled.

How do we do this?
As you know, donating blood is a highly regulated process. Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) regulations are designed to shield an individual’s Protected Health Information (PHI) from unauthorized access. Working within strict regulatory policies of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the American Association of Blood Banks (AABB), we are required to maintain your health information confidentially as part of our everyday operations. We also take the following additional steps to ensure your information is secure.

Before your donation:
Our employees are required to attend in-depth training on confidentiality and maintaining the security of the information. This includes understanding and signing our “Statement of Confidentiality”.

Access to our computer system is strictly limited and assigned according to job responsibilities.

During your donation:
The information we collect from you is called your “Donor Record”. Only employees that have been specifically trained to collect this information and keep it confidential can assist you.

Your Donor Record is handled only by employees that need it to do their job and is always protected from the view of other donors.

After your donation:
Your blood is processed and sent to the hospitals. During this process, access to your information is limited to those employees that need it to ensure proper coding and distribution.

Your Donor Record, along with those of other donors is kept in a secured area.

Your written consent is required to release your information to other medical professionals.

We can identify every individual who has the ability to handle your information.

We appreciate you and your generous donation of the “Gift of Life”. If you would like more information about the security of your information, please call 1-877-24-BLOOD.
